Winter Blahs
You know you haven’t blogged in a very long time when you have to think about what your blog password is.
December has been a total bust for me as far as running goes. I am a procrastinator. Which means I put off projects like making the custom calendars I usually make for family members as my annual Christmas gift. Well, this year I was considering not making them because I didn’t think it was a big deal. But then my mother called and specifically asked about them. Which shocked me. First of all, she rarely calls. Secondly, I didn’t think she cared all that much about the calendars. Apparently she does though. So I started working on the calendars. Each month takes me awhile to do because I am a slow scrapper. I was staying up late late late. Being exhausted the next day. Eating crap. This kind of behavior is not good for running.
And winter itself just doesn’t put me in the mood. The cold. The icy patches on the ground. Also I was reading some posts over at the Daily Mile and I think I have shin splints. I’ve just been ignoring them.
I’ve tried a couple times to run on the treadmill. And each time ends in failure. I just cannot seem to keep myself going. The sheer and utter boredom kills me. My battle with the treadmill shows me I really lack mental toughness. I can maybe go a mile or so but then my mind just keeps telling me to stop. Well, one time, I could feel my blood sugar dropping too quickly so I had to stop because of that. I downloaded some audio books from our local library (love that I can do that) but even the audio books do not distract me enough. Next I’m going to see if I can find some sort of thing that will hold my iPhone to the treadmill console so that I can watch a movie or something.
If you find a way to make “dreadmill” running interesting or exciting let me know! lol I don’t think it has a thing to do with mental toughness. It’s just plain old boring. lol I wish you could find a way to convince yourself to get outside. Yesterday I found the perfect routine. I warmed up by walking on the treadmill for 10 mins and then went outside immediately ready to go with no adjustment to make to the cold. I was all ready warm and loosened up. Maybe that might work for you too! BTW, the calendars sound nice. It’s good to find out what you do is appreciated. Glad you found out in time to make them for 2010. : )
